"From the moment that Alyssa and Chuck sent us their introductory video, they felt like people who actually cared about our financial state and actively sought out solution after solution for our genuine well-being. These are the kind of folks who become your friend first, then grant advice from a caring and sincere perspective. They want to see you succeed, they cheer you on when you win, and they remind you of what you've accomplished through the efforts you put forth. These are the kind of people we all talk about befriending. People who are on our side, grow alongside you, and make you feel welcome." The Ramsons
"We feel so good about saving for the move and really appreciate your advice and encouragement to not RISK the Emergency Fund. This new plan has taken me from anxious to relaxed with regard to the move and paying off the mortgage. As you can imagine, I like being in the driver’s seat and this plan puts us there!" D.H.
"This is the BEST BUDGET EVER! Now I know I can afford to live, pay my bills and still have enough money left over to save." - T.H.
"My debt-free journey is going great! Meeting with you two was a tremendous help driving me in the direction I needed to go...I have paid off around $50k in debt while buying a house and cash flowing a wedding and honeymoon. My shovel has also gotten bigger, and my wife and I intend to be debt free minus the house in a year. Thank you for all your help." - Chris
"We've never had this much money in our savings account before. We are communicating, putting in the effort and doing the work." - C.E.
What was your absolute biggest challenge prior to coaching?
We were not on the same page. I was trying to manage money and juggle debt and at times feeling like I was robbing Peter to pay Paul. My husband kept a distance from even discussing money and was often ‘surprised’ by the current financial situation. At times, it was easier for us both to ‘deny’ our growing debt and we adopted a mindset that we would one day figure it out or just work until we no longer could.
How did that challenge make you feel?
We felt powerless, out of control, embarrassed, frustrated, and disappointed.
What changed after coaching?
My husband and I figured out how to talk money! The coaching gave us the space to think, strategize, and even share frustrations but with the intent to figure out solutions that would help us achieve our goals as a family. We felt empowered over our debt. This ‘huge’ hurdle became manageable, and we started to see progress quickly.
What specific results can you share?
We have been able to knock off debt that has led to us growing a speedy debt snowball. With the help of our coaches, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel in the next couple of years and that is unbelievable!
What would you say to somebody on the fence about starting financial coaching?
Step over the fence to the uncomfortable. Talking money, exposing the underbelly of your financial woes and being willing to be held accountable is not comfortable, but the end result is so worth it. Chuck and Alyssa compliment each other and they work together to meet you where you are without judgment. - A. Stockenstroom
What was your absolute biggest challenge prior to coaching?
We struggled with discipline. We sold our house and knocked out all our debt in one blow, which was great! But it also meant that some of the good habits that would keep us prosperous and fiscally responsible hadn't had time to develop. So we would set a budget and then often ignore it, or not communicate about what our short-term and long-term financial goals were.
How did that challenge make you feel?
Very frustrated! It felt that we had taken a huge step forward and then just fell right down on our butts... we were not moving forward and while we certainly had made progress it felt like we were in danger of moving backwards.
What changed after coaching?
Our confidence. We figured out where our strengths were, and who was best at doing what. We are more deliberate, and we have conversations now that we weren't having before. We plan out our budget and actually talk about it throughout the month.
What specific results can you share?
While this may not seem like a positive to the outsider, we were in a position where we were going to need to spend quite a bit more money than we initially thought. We were able to discuss this in advance, came up with a plan, and spent the money. Even though this meant putting aside our goal for the month (putting away money for a down payment on a house), it felt incredible to be able to say "we will spend this extra $1000 dollars to accomplish these other goals," rather than "Oh no! Where did this $1000 go??? What happened?!"
What would you say to somebody on the fence about starting financial coaching?
Do it. If you're on square one and all you have is a book but no one to walk with you, it is well worth it. If you're halfway there and feel like giving up, Chuck and Alyssa will cheer with you every step of the way. If you feel, like we did, like you need a wake up call or like you are missing one or two of the puzzle pieces to complete your financial picture, so to speak, it is so worth it!
We highly recommend Chuck and Alyssa, especially if you are also a married couple looking for coaching. They would be excellent for anyone, but they also can share experience of some of the unique challenges that come with married life. :)
What was your absolute biggest challenge prior to coaching?
Our biggest challenge prior to coaching was communication with each other about what we were doing with our finances. We have separate accounts and weren't always in sync with what we were planning to spend our money on. This led to bad planning, miscommunication, and financial stress.
How did that challenge make you feel?
Stressed! Talking about money often ended up in an argument because we were both stressed and unsure of what to do.
What changed after coaching?
After coaching, we are able to put our plan for our money down on a spreadsheet that we can see and manipulate. Learning how to budget and plan for the months ahead took a lot of the anxiety and unknowns out of our lives and made it easier to talk about finances. Now we are able to plan ahead each month based on what we know (and don't know) and budget accordingly, which takes a LOT of the stress out of our lives.
What specific results can you share?
With the help of Alyssa and Chuck, we were able to go from losing money every month due to bad financial planning to saving money every month because we knew where all of our money was going. We were able to build an emergency fund which came in handy when an emergency came up!
What would you say to somebody on the fence about starting financial coaching?
Life is all about taking risks. Financial coaching is a risk, yes, but the rewards are great if you apply what you learn! It really is worth it!
What was your absolute biggest challenge prior to coaching?
Our biggest challenge was budgeting, maintaining a budget, and the best ways to utilize our money.
How did that challenge make you feel?
Hopeless and like we would forever be in debt.
What changed after coaching?
The way we view our money is significantly different. Instead of being reactive, we are more proactive, and we can see that in unexpected events, we don't have to reach for our credit cards.
What specific results can you share?
Our most significant result wasn't a quantity or a number, but it was quality in our mindset. Coaching opened our eyes to the constant mistakes we were making, and some great things were already doing that we didn't recognize. Now in the future, we feel confident in paying off our remaining debt and focusing on building our assets.
What would you say to somebody on the fence about starting financial coaching?
Do it! Like you would go to the doctor to fix your physical health, you need financial advisors and coaching to improve your financial health, and even when you think you know it all, there is always more that Alyssa and Chuck can teach you. You will not regret it because even though you are going for your financial health, you get much more.
Alyssa and Chuck are excellent. Their two different strategies when it comes to solving problems are highly beneficial because it gives you more options to utilize, and in this area, more options are always a great thing.
What was your absolute biggest challenge prior to coaching?
My greatest challenge was believing a budget was doable in terms of could I actually stick to what was set.
How did that challenge make you feel?
Hopeless and distressed.
What changed after coaching?
I now know that a budget can be set and kept. The emotional support of Alyssa was fantastic. She helped me carry the weight of such a transition from loose spending to making every dollar count and I'm so thankful to her for it.
What specific results can you share?
Before Alyssa, I had a budget that I did not follow and that was not doable. After working with Alyssa tirelessly to first create, then maintain one, I had a budget that was financially reasonable and doable. I was finally able to find money, get some breathing room in my spending and actually even be able to save. She helped shift my whole mindset about money and be able to find money that I didn't think was there.
What would you say to somebody on the fence about starting financial coaching?
Alyssa is great for all aspects of financial coaching with numerical knowledge but also emotional support. With great understanding and compassion she was able to help me through some great times. I've had coaches before but they were never able to speak to the heart and encourage me through dark times like she did. She was inspiring, motivational and amazing. She spoke to me as a person and help me see the good side of me and the silver linings in my dark money clouds by highlighting the positive continuously.
You are doing great, Alyssa. Keep it up!
What was your absolute biggest challenge prior to coaching?
Prior to coaching, my absolute biggest challenge was budgeting. I never really learned how to do it and any time I tried it, I was unsuccessful for one reason or another. I even took a course on finances which touched on budgeting and how important it was but what I really needed was someone to sit down with me and help me with my specific budget.
How did that challenge make you feel?
The lack of a budget has made me feel extremely stressed about money and finances. I felt like I didn't have control over my finances and the thought of budgeting was overwhelming because I just didn't know how to do it correctly.
What changed after coaching?
Alyssa listened to my needs, concerns and questions. She took the time to really understand my unique situation and helped me finally set up a usable budget that I feel confident about. She answered all of my questions including one that I've asked and researched multiple times. And the best part was that she worded it in such simple way that it finally made sense to me. I now feel like I can use a budget to help me manage my finances successfully.
What specific results can you share?
I have been stuck in a never ending circle concerning my finances since my divorce 6 years ago. Alyssa attentively listened as I told my story. She showed so much compassion and understanding. Then she said to me "imagine what it will feel like when that circle finally stops" and tears started falling from my eyes as my my body just relaxed. The way she said those words and the way she made the motion of the circle with her hand as she said them really made an impact on me.
What would you say to somebody on the fence about starting financial coaching?
I would tell them to go for it!! Make a list of any and all questions and start. It has made a world of difference for me.
I am so grateful that Alyssa came into my life. She has made such a tremendous difference in my life. I'm still working on getting my budget just right but I now completely understand HOW to budget and HOW to make it work for me. I am finally confident that I will be able to get my finances under control and finally get that never ending circle to stop. I can't thank Alyssa enough for all she has done for me.
